Trauma isn't a personality flaw or something you think your way out of. It's a physiological event. Your nervous system got overwhelmed, couldn't complete its stress response, and now carries that unfinished business in your body. That's not weakness. That's biology.
Breathwork can help. Not because it's magic, but because it gives your nervous system a way to move what's been stuck. Intense breathing shifts your physiology, brings suppressed material to the surface, and lets your body do what it couldn't do at the time: discharge, process, complete.
What breathwork can do:
Access stored tension and emotion the thinking mind can't reach
Regulate a nervous system stuck in fight, flight, or freeze
Create space between you and your reactive patterns
Build capacity to feel intensity without being overwhelmed by it
What breathwork can't do:
Replace therapy
Undo trauma in one session
Work if you're not ready to feel what's there
Myths worth killing:
"You need to relive the trauma to heal it." No. Re-traumatisation isn't healing. The goal is regulated contact with difficult material, not a nosedive into the deep end without a way back.
"Breathwork is gentle and safe for everyone." Not always. High ventilation breathwork is intense. If you've got significant trauma history, unmedicated psychiatric conditions, or you're in active crisis, this work needs to be approached carefully or not at all.
"Healing means you won't feel it anymore." Healing means it stops running your life. You might still feel it. You just won't be hijacked by it.
Regulation first. Always. You learn to settle your system before you push it, and you learn to land properly after. No one gets thrown into the deep end without the skills to get back out.

This is breathwork, not therapy. It can support your healing. It can be an absolute game changer BUT, It doesn't replace proper clinical care when that's what's needed.
